The Cabinet Office and Louise Haigh MP have announced new measures aimed at ensuring public spending supports growth and good jobs across the country.
Under the plans, utility companies—including electricity, gas and water networks—will be expected to create British jobs and apprenticeships as they invest for the future. The National Shipbuilding Office will be given oversight of all civil shipbuilding in government, with decisions intended to be made in the national interest and to provide value to taxpayers.
A new Insourcing Unit, based within the Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet, will also be established to bring forward the biggest wave of insourcing, according to the announcement. The government said communities across the country are set to benefit from growth and good jobs as a result of the measures.
